The Macquarie Marshes Nature Reserve covering a marshland area of 21927 hectares is one of the most pristine wildlife parks of the country sprawling along the Macquarie River. This floodplain marshland is laden with river red gum plantation and the marshlands by them create a favourable habitat for over eighty thousand water birds that breed here as well as emus and kangaroos. Some of the birds that you will find while hiking the area are glossy ibis, brolgas, intermediate egrets, Australian Bittern, magpie goose, painted snipe and freckled duck. The sunbeams while reflecting on the shallow water bodies look magical with the backdrop of the olive green forestry. Nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts will love to spot the turtles, fishes, snakes and invertebrates from the marsh area.
