Set up in 1875 on a design by architects Leon Du Fourny and Venanzio Marvuglia, it is one of the most significant botanical gardens in Europe for the richness and abundance of vegetable specimen coming from all over the world. This garden lies within the city of Palermo and has its beginning from the early 18the century.

These gardens are a part of University of Palermo and with extensive enlargement, the garden is a home to more than 12000 different species. From medicinal plants, plants used for research to decorative samples that add to the aesthetic beauty of the place, the garden is now a home to colony of parrots Psittacula krameri which enhance the allure!

The garden also comprises of buildings like Gymnasium, Calidarium and Tepidarium built in neo-classical style, greenhouses, aquariums and water lagoon. A Gene bank is also added in recent years to expand the number of species in the garden.
