Built in Romanesque style and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, this Chiesa della Martorana in Palermo dates from 1143 and is famed for its spectacular mosaics. The official name for La Martorana is Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio which means St. Mary of the Admiral.
