Basilica Of Bom Jesus, Panaji Reviews

  • Churches in Goa are an important legacy of it being an erstwhile Portuguese colony. Built across centuries, these architectural wonders were more than just a place of worship; they hold a place of historical or cultural significance as well. One of the popular churches in Goa is the Basilica of Bom Jesus. The mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier is preserved here in this Basilica and hence revered by many. It also is an UNESCO World Heritage site.

  • The Bom Jesus Basilica, perhaps Goa's most famous church and among the most revered by Christians worldwide, is partially in ruins but still a model of simplicity and elegance, and a fine example of Jesuit architecture. This magnificent edifice stands as a superb example of Baroque architecture in Goa. The church is called "Bom Jesus" meaning 'good Jesus' or 'infant Jesus' to whom it is dedicated. The façade has on it, at the top, the letters, "HIS" which are the first three letters of Jesus in Greek.he Basilica of Bom Jesus is more than 408 years old and is open to the public every day. The body of St. Francis Xavier is in a well-decorated casket, which can be seen in the photographs below. Solemn exhibitions of the 'body' are held every ten years. Some photos taken inside the church are attached for better understanding of the art work of that time. These art works are called "murals".

  • It is the most famous church in Goa. This church holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. It has a wonderful exhibition gallery which has many artifacts and painting. It also showcases an interesting display of life of Jesus Christ. A definite tourist attraction.

  • A church dedicated to St Xavier with his grave in a silver coffin inside which is opened every 10yrs.. The inner architecture Is v beautiful to see with art gallery and video show(chargable).. The outside is equally beautiful with some good photogenic location too! Parking space too sufficient!

  • Very peaceful and calm place. Main attraction of Goa. Has a museum inside. Has the un-decomposed remains of St.Francis Xavier. Will maintained church. Great architecture. Ample parking.
