Reis Magos Fort - Review

Though not as famous as Fort Aguada, this smaller fort actually predates the larger one by about half a century. Built in 1551, it was enlarged over the centuries, and proved to be decisive against the Maratha armies in the 18th century. Visitors ought to check out the commanding view it has of the land and the sea, and the 33 guns that defend its walls. Later used as a prison, the fort eventually was abandoned, fell into decay, until it was renovated in the late 20th century. Today it is used as an event space that can be rented out to private parties. It's a popular place to get married, shoot films, or throw a fashion show.

Near the fort, close to a pretty spring of water, is the elegant church of Reis Magos.

Reis Magos Fort, Panaji Reviews

  • This is one of the hidden gems in Goa. There is a tranquility about this fort that's special. It's one of the destinations in Goa which doesn't have a lot of locals- possibly due to the entry free (50 rupees). It's very well maintained. There is a nice little hike to the top. The fort itself is pretty tiny but the views to the ocean are pretty awesome. You could spend hours here enjoying the cool sea breeze and the quiet blissful ambience. Highly recommended!

  • The most preferred fort of Goa I would say. Restored recently by the Government of Goa, including many portraits and histories of the past. A must visit fort either if you are going with your friends or with your family. An entry fee of Rs.50 will be collected at the reception. Good looking and good maintained Canons can be spotted on the terrace along with Greens and Stone bricks. Highly recommended !!!

  • Good place to visit in Goa. Excellent views are here. Sea and river sights are beautiful.. Jails in which freedom fighters are kept are in this fort. We can go inside and take photos with mobile phone (camera need entry fee 250 I think). Good one. Good locations to take photos. Fort was well designed to face enemy attacks.. Church is also there besides the fort. But don't sit or rest on the walls of the fort. It was restricted.

  • Very pretty fort, well maintained and renovated with beautiful view. There is a small fee of 20 rupees to pay. The Fort it’s very clean with no plastic and other rubbish around like the others forts that I have visited in Goa. There are different rooms, the one I liked the most is one where you can learn about the history of Goa, the time it was rule by Portugal etc.

  • A wonderfully maintained fort in Goa. Worth a visit. Especially in the rains. It's covered in greenery. While going up one has to pay the entry fee and office provides a vehicle for the ride up. Private vehicles aren't allowed as there is no provision for parking on top. While coming down one has to walk, a short walk down. Or one can climb down the stairs. There is a picture gallery inside.
