About Reis Magos Fort, Panaji

Though not as famous as Fort Aguada, this smaller fort actually predates the larger one by about half a century. Built in 1551, it was enlarged over the centuries, and proved to be decisive against the Maratha armies in the 18th century. Visitors ought to check out the commanding view it has of the land and the sea, and the 33 guns that defend its walls. Later used as a prison, the fort eventually was abandoned, fell into decay, until it was renovated in the late 20th century. Today it is used as an event space that can be rented out to private parties. It's a popular place to get married, shoot films, or throw a fashion show.

Near the fort, close to a pretty spring of water, is the elegant church of Reis Magos.

  • How good as a fort it is I doubt. It's very small. But maintained to the best by the team. It was a wonderful experience there as the place is usually less crowded as most people don't know about it. Sit on the stairs in the back leading to the basement levels and enjoy the sea breeze. It's amazing. It's been modified a bit and couple of rooms have been converted to be a wash room but is well maintained.

  • The fort is reconstructed partly to recover heritage. It is properly maintained and you have to pay entry fee. Once you reach top, you will see beautiful view of ocean. Also fort has various sections filled with pictures depicting old Goa. It also shows remembers history of Goa's freedom fight. Good to visit place and to know more about Goa and it's culture.

  • It really amazed the tourists the way it has been restored by themselves. Its really a beautiful fort with such a beautiful and vivid natures scenes. It really offers one a good and quality spaces. The church is also beautiful located below the fort. You should visit this place before 5 pm because it the closing time in the evening.

  • Very nice heritage place, government maintain this place very nicely. History they have written, about Goa ,how maps we're generated, people's attire, occupation everything was nice perfect place for historians. Most interesting thing I like was ladies washroom doors, when u see from anything would be visible to you but from inside everything is visible to you of other side.

  • Reis Magos is the Portuguese name for the Three wise Men from the Bible. This fort holds some historical stories and along with you can enjoy the sun set as well. If you are going for Reis Magos church, then this is the place next you will visit. There is a minimal Entry Fee which is 25 rps. Parking is available on the roadside and is free. Its well worth a visit and the views from the top are spectacular. Great for photography.
