Though not as famous as Fort Aguada, this smaller fort actually predates the larger one by about half a century. Built in 1551, it was enlarged over the centuries, and proved to be decisive against the Maratha armies in the 18th century. Visitors ought to check out the commanding view it has of the land and the sea, and the 33 guns that defend its walls. Later used as a prison, the fort eventually was abandoned, fell into decay, until it was renovated in the late 20th century. Today it is used as an event space that can be rented out to private parties. It's a popular place to get married, shoot films, or throw a fashion show.

Near the fort, close to a pretty spring of water, is the elegant church of Reis Magos.

Reis Magos Fort, Panaji Reviews - Write a Review

  • Small yet a good fort to visit. It was like visiting some movie set. Well maintained. It's good pretty good views towards the sea and mountains. One can cover this fort in less than an hr, with 50 Rs for entry + Rs 250 extra if you are carrying a camera.

  • The Highlight of our trip to Goa. Never saw a public monument so well maintained and looked after. A hidden gem of sorts with very friendly staff. The views high up are breathtaking. Sparsely crowded so ample opportunities to click great photos. I loved the architecture of the fort and how well planned and well laid out it is considering its quite old. Best of the forts in Goa if not all of India. Do not miss the death hole which is a good defence feature designed to keep out enemies who tried to enter the fort.

  • Very well maintained fort amongst all such ones in Goa. It has museums which displays the history of Goa's liberation. Also the location of the fort is superb. It stands next to beautiful beach.

  • Amazing and Must Visiting Place in Goa. Though it is small the upkeep of the monument is very good. You get fabulous view of City, Sea, Forest. Also there are 5-6 Portuguese Cannons. Also next to there is a big and beautiful Church.

  • A beautiful place to visit which is less crowded as well. The area nearby the fort is calm and one can enjoy the calm surroundings and relax here for a while.
