The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (17 acres) is a nonprofit botanical garden and nature preserve located on the 4 mile scenic route off of Route 19 at 27-717 Old Māmalahoa Highway, Pāpa'ikou, Hawaii (island), Hawaii. It is open daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. An admission fee is charged to the general public, those with a military I.D. are admitted free of charge. The garden is located in a scenic valley opening out to Onomea Bay, and features streams, waterfalls and a boardwalk along the ocean. It was created by Dan J. Lutkenhouse, who purchased the property in 1977 and began to develop it as a botanical garden. It opened to the public in 1984, and was donated by the Lutkenhouses to a nonprofit trust in 1995. Today the garden contains over 2,000 plant species, representing more than 125 families and 750 genera, with good collections of palms (nearly 200 species), heliconias (more than 80 species), and bromeliads (more than 80 species). Some of the garden's mango and coconut palm trees are over 100 years old. The garden combines water and flora: A three-tiered waterfall (Onomea Falls) provides one of several water views which include Boulder Creek and the lava tubes on Onomea Bay.Wikipedia

Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, Papaikou Reviews - Write a Review
Absolutely stunning garden, beautifully designed and absolutely worth the price. We spent over an hour admiring the lush green plants, multi coloured orchids growing on palm trees and beautiful views of the ocean. Loved it!
We have been there many times and are never disappointed. The amount of work that goes into the maintenance here shows. It's always a pleasure to visit.
It was an amazing experience for me. Would recomend for any age that is if you love the long walks in the exotic gardens. Millions of species of colorful plants, very romantic and secluded little corners where you can find yourself all alone with nature. Stop by the Founders Birdhouse to say Aloha to local parrots and then throw a coin into a wishing well at the Orchid Garden. There's so much more to see, go explore it yourselves and make own impressions.
Dive into a beautiful Paradise in the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden. Steep paths wind down to the ocean. Every step reveals a new beautiful flower or unique plant. Watch out for the raining orchids that cover a tree! Be sure to carry a spare battery or two for your camera. You will need it! I had batteries in two cameras die. Luckily my phone takes great photos too!
Such a beautiful place! Well worth the steep walk - but the do have golf carts with drivers if you can't manage it. Garden staff were really friendly and helpful, now maybe i won't kill my orchids at home so quick!!
