Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, Papaikou Reviews
Hard to believe but it was even better than we remembered. They said approx 1 1/2 hrs to visit but just like before we took much longer and can't imagine why anyone would want to take less. An added bonus is the very reasonably priced gift and museum shop. It was a great experience and a must do when visiting the big island.
Simply beautiful! Once a garbage filled valley has been transformed over the span of a couple decades into a tropical oasis. A one mile walk round trip down to the ocean and back. They are open 9-5pm, we got there around 3pm and had plenty of time to leisurely stroll through the grounds. It's $15/person with a gift shop and restrooms. My daughter loved the parrot enclosure located about half way through and all the plants and flowers are labeled. It was a nice stop on our way down the hamauka coast.
I love this place! I love arboretums and botanical gardens. This one is spectacular. You experience lush rainforest, wonderful foliage, rough ocean views, and so much more. My phone ran out of battery in the hour it took to explore all the beauties and I'm sure I missed quite a bit. Most of the park is wheelchair accessible but the ramp is quite steep and might sometimes be slippery. I highly recommend visiting this place.
It is a superb experience visiting this place. A must see when on the big island. Hundreds of thousands of species of plants from different parts of the world. The staff here is really helpful. The one attraction worth visiting is the lookout points to the ocean. I could sit there for hours listening to the waves. There's a golf cart which goes around for almost the whole route for people who cannot walk steep slopes. They charge a nominal fee of $5. One thing I didn't like is that they have 4 exotic parrots caged in the middle of the park. I'm sure they must be feeding them well and keeping them happy, but it still doesn't feel right!
Very beautiful and fun. It is pretty steep hike back up. We have a larger family with younger kids so the annual pass worked best for us. Nice gift shop. It is a small road to get there, but a pretty drive. We went out the other way abs that was nice to. More of an open road.
