About Pafos Zoo, Paphos

Paphos Zoo isn’t exactly that well known, but it’s a treasure regardless. It’s actually quite large, and more than a little popular for it’s bird and parrot shows. It was originally a private collection of birds and the now public zoo is the third largest of it’s kind in Europe. The Zoo has been consistently acquiring animals over the last few years such as zebra, giraffe, gazelle, primates, white lion, tigers and elephants.

Visitors love the zoo for it’s neat organisation, cleanliness, friendly staff and children especially love the petting area, where they can get up close and personal with the animals. There are plenty of shaded areas around for snack and rest and the zoo restaurant isn’t half bad. Do not under any circumstance miss the bird and parrot show; the animals are highly well trained and the experience is supposed to be irreplaceable. If you want a distinctly non-archaeological Paphos experience, you couldn’t ask for better.

Pafos Zoo, Paphos Reviews

  • A great experience and great day out. This zoo is big and has a lot on show. The bird show is well worth a visit as well so definitely go for that. In the end they bring out a tiger cub you can hold and take fantastic photos with. From what I could see animals are well kept and fed. Some animals like the elephant where single though. Which I do not agree with. At least get pairs so they have a partner and do not get lonely. Staff very friendly, most you find where British so no communication barriers if you speak English. Definitely worth a visit.

  • I can not support a zoo that does not provide adequate lodging, mental, or physical care for its animals. The heat is unbearable, yet the animals are forced onto paved slabs, in some cases, with no way to escape the heat. Further, they obtained two Asian elephants, despite advisement against, suffering the loss of one elephant shortly after transfer, leaving a lone elephant. We already know elephants suffer in the best of captive circumstances. Not only will I not support this zoo, I will be working to help release this poor lone elephant to a reputable sanctuary, where it can receive the proper mental and physical care deserved!

  • Great place to spend the day. A lot of animals, well looked after. The bird show is a must see.

  • Definitely must visit and see place. Zoo is growing bigger each year and some new habitants added frequently. Also Zoo has not so bad cafe inside and view toward the Bay Area. Love to spend time there and then getting a food, lamb, if available, strongly recommended at the cafe inside.

  • Perfect place to spend up to half a day with the family. Scenic place, animals seemed well looked after. We went for lunch in the local restaurant and I didn’t expect much it not being their main source of income, but I honestly had probably the best meal throughout my stay in Cyprus. Would definitely return the next time I’m here.
