About Arab World Institute, Paris

This unique museum was founded in 1980 with the joint effort of the North African nations and France and 18 Middle East nations in 1980. The primary reason for the establishment of the museum was to encourage ‘cross-cultural dialogue’. Today the museum has become the home of a research center, temporary exhibitions, and a venue for hosting concerts and film screenings. As you travel around Paris, it will be hard to miss this magnificent museum. The stunning architectural design done by Jean Nouvel is bound to attract your attention. The story goes that Jean Nouvel took aspiration from the traditional latticed-wood windows called ‘mashrabiya’ – the photo-electrically sensitive glass walls that regulate the amount of sun rays entering inside the building.

The upper floors of the museum display artifacts belonging to both the Middle East and the North Africa. Climb up to the 9th floor observation terrace to see the incredible views of the surrounding region.

Arab World Institute, Paris Reviews - Write a Review

  • The exhibition was okay but the love to detail was not. Nearly all texts were french only, No toilets for men, very hard to read texts on glas. There is definitely much room to improve here!

  • The building itself is impressive. I could only visit the bookstore, amazing. Helpful staff. Discounts for teachers in the general ticket. I give them 3 stars because they should improve the building cleaning in some areas.

  • Very interesting museum with loads of info on the Arabic world. The building itself is a piece of art. Nice view over Paris from the top terrace.

  • The exhibition is fantastc but the Institut needs to make an efgort to have cleaner toiled and improve a better qualty affordable food Is a shame that there is non efforts to improve the whole experience that could bring more public Again the exhibits are extra !!

  • Not much to see. Boring museum. Highlights were the lifts in the building
