Auberge De Jeunesse Yves Robert, Paris Reviews
Very good location, lovely eco-building the only shame is because all services are centrally controlled you can't change the temperature of the showers or sinks. I also found it odd that we had a sink and a shower in the room but no toilet. The rooms were very clean, easily accessible plus and charging points. Needs were comfortable and nice and wide. Good links to transport and sights. Just up the road and to the left is the Paris Star Food a kebab and pizza shop. Excellent food, cheap price and large portions.
The hostel itself was nice but the neighbourhood it was located in was not. We walked from the city centre to this hostel and on the way my friends were catcalled every 5 steps, my gay friend was approached for reasons of prostitution, someone was beaten up by a gang right in front of the hostel and in the night we heard a gunshot while sleeping with the window open. Would never return, not because of the hostel but because of the problematic area and scary atmosphere.
This place may be ok in winter. In the middle of summer I was in a room without a working A/C or ventilation system. I opened the window (which didn't really help against the 27C(85F) heat at night, but because this hostel is by a quai a bunch of mosquitos came in and tormented me and my roommate. I asked one staffer what could be done but he brushed me off because he was hitting on three female guests. I asked another staffer who decided he would try to help me open other windows, which wouldn't open. Another staffer said someone would come to fix it that day; days later and nothing. The staff ranges from dismissive to nice but useless. Again, in winter this may be okay, but this is a nightmare hostel in summer.
Whilst I didn't really like the neighbourhood I really did rate this hostel! It's feels very new and did everything I needed it to do. Lots of shared spaces on the ground level. It's also handy to the station which was good since I wasn't so big on walking around at night.
Great accomodation at good price but dodgu area outside at night!
