Paris’s oldest city wall, Wall of Philip II Augustus was constructed between 1190 and 1213 in order to protect the city. Currently, only a few sections of the wall are visible including Rue du Louvre, Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, rue Charlemagne and rue des Jardins-Saint Paul, and rue Clovis. Encompassing an area of about 253 hectares, the wall measured 2600 meters on the Right bank and 2500 meters on the left. With semi-circular towers, bastion towers, fifteen gates, and various posters, the wall is a historically significant attraction that contributed to defending the French capital.
