Probably a basilica might have existed on the same site back in 6th century, but was abandoned later on. In 1106, the sight was turned to a cathedral, popularly known as Parma Cathedral. It is perhaps the most important Italian Romanesque cathedral, decorated by Illusionistic fresco by Antonio da Correggio. In the interior of the cathedral, you can see a Latin cross plan, with a nave and 2 aisles divided by pilasters. The main feature to look out is the famous artwork named Assumption by the famous artist Corregio, placed in the center cupola.

Cattedrale Di Parma, Parma Reviews - Write a Review

  • Spectacular cathedral with a remarkable level of decoration. The early medieval fabric of the cathedral was been redecorated many times, and is now mostly of Reformation period. Very crowded with tourist groups, but very well managed.

  • It's really worth a trip to visit Parma and the Cathedral is something not to be missed. Incredible, centuries old building. Inside you could get close to unbelievable artworks. Experience of a lifetime.

  • Is one of the most beautiful churches I’ve visited. Fantastic place. Specially inside. Recommend.

  • Must see sight of Parma. Original building is good for the 1106 construction date, while there are some 1300s frescoes, the majority of frescoes are from 1500s beautifully enhance the interior.

  • Beautiful inside. A fine place for quiet contemplation
