Situated at an altitude of 329 meters Chateau de Montaner is known for its 40 meter high fortified tower which was once used to keep a watchful eye on the borders of Bearn. Built in 1373, on the orders of Gaston Febus, the count of Foix, the Chateau served as a garrison and Protection on the frontiers of Bearn.

This, along with Morlanne Chateaux, stands as one of the finest examples of French Renaissance Architecture. The town itself gives an antique feel to it where the streets are still lined with 17th and 18th century buildings and residences.

Highlights Include:

• On July 11th and 12th a ‘Medieval’ festival is organized in town. An event not to be missed.
• Right around the same time the medieval market is set up, which displays old costumes, jewellery and other items for buying.
• Various Plays and Re-enactments from the life and battles of Gaston Febus by Troops and artists are an absolute delight and fun to watch.
• During summer the tourism office offers workshops which include Pottery, Smithy, Woodwork and Archery.

• At a stone throw distance lies The Madiran Vineyards, a place known for its trademark vines from dark ruby grapes.
