Edinburgh Butterfly & Insect World, Lasswade Reviews

  • Very helpful staff. Knowledgeable and friendly. Visiting with children with special needs was made very easy and welcoming. Some bits of the building are looking a bit tired. Overall a great experience.

  • Lovely peaceful place to visit. A nice young man explained and showed us the hiding places for the caterpillars. I got to hold a stick insect too. Very knowledgeable staff.

  • Great fun for all the family - I recommend picking up the booklet of different butterflies for an extra pound as you go in - makes it more interesting as you go round identifying each one you see. Also recommend the animal handling for the kids (not that I have any but saw how much the kids there enjoyed it!) they get to hold snakes and millipedes etc. Keep an eye out for random chickens and adorable kiwi type birds speeding around the place as well.

  • Overall the whole place is great. Staff member who did the talk at 12 was awful. She was dull, boring and quite frankly rude. Asked if anyone wanted a quick shot of the millipede before it went away and my four year old son put his hands out towards her for her to blunty say "you've had a shot". What a way to encourage children to learn, especially when no one else wanted a shot! Wouldn't rush back.

  • Great value for money. Are able to go in/out all day as many times as you wish. There are handling sessions also. Lots of varieties of animals to see here. Free parking also.
