Amethyst Mine is the only gemstone mine in the world which gives access to the public. The semi-precious stone has been found here in the adjacent lane near about 2000 years ago. As for now, it is not used for mining, but you can hunt for this stone and if you find one then it is all yours to keep. You would be able to know about the chemistry, rock physics, history and geology of this stone from here. After the tour, visit the cafe of Amethyst Mine for enjoying some snacks and drinks. Hiking is another option which is allowed in the surrounding area.

Amethyst Mine Reviews & Ratings

  • Great experience, the staff is very friendly , first a little history and what is amethyst. And after we go digging and if you're lucky you can found some amethyst. And I found some little piece .

  • The people here at the amethyst mine know their stuff and have somehow managed to find a compromise between making a profit and at the same time being completely sustainable. The tour was very interesting and entertaining, and at the end they let you bring home one piece of amethyst that you dig out yourself!

  • The history and knowledge the guide share are so interesting. You get to see stones thwy digged up and then you can go dig youself. Or not really dig, as the stones are so many that they actually lay on the top. By the stones you collect they will help you point out a nice stone and you can keep it. I had a tour with the french guy and he is so fun and a nice and calm guy.

  • We rode in Pendolino through deep snow from a parking lot to the mine. A guide told us very interesting (!) stories about the mineral, the mine and also related myths. After we digged up amethysts from the mine's surface, we returned in Pendolino the same way.

  • After joyful walk in the national park full of amazing autumn colors you arrive to the nice tiny caffe where you may get some hot drink before going to hunt your treasure. Your guide tells you a cool (also literally) story of the amethysts, the mine, Lapland and Earth. And then amethyst rush begins! You get your equipment and go digging. You have a good chance to find real treasure in the real field conditions and keep it. 😋 There is also a tiny store for lazy visitors. We really enjoyed the time.
