Penang Hill - Review

Penang Hill is one of the oldest colonial hill station established by the British during their time in Malaysia. Explored in the late 18th century, a horse trail was cut by the Waterfall Gardens (present day Penang Botanic Gardens) to the summit of the hilly spine of Penang, allowing the British to escape from the chaos of George Town to the cooler climate on the hill.

Penang Hill comprises several hills including Strawberry Hill, Halliburton’s Hill, Flagstaff Hill, Government Hill, Tiger Hill and Western Hill. The highest point of this range is at Western Hill, with an elevation of 833m (2,723ft) above sea level. The range also serves as the largest water catchment area on the island, and a number of tributaries to major rivers in Penang.

With an elevation of more than 2,000 ft above sea level, Penang Hill offers the best panorama of George Town, and other conurbations on the eastern coast of Penang Island. Enjoy the view of the northern coast from Crag Hotel, or simply sit back and enjoy the lighting up of George Town at dusk. The cooler climate of Penang Hill is an important factor in the establishment of the hill resort which offers a cooler respite away from the hustle – bustle in George Town and its surrounding areas.

The alluring nature and mesmerizing view is what Penang Hill is known for and we couldn’t agree more!

Penang Hill, Penang Hill Reviews

  • When I came here the train was under maintenance for the week so decided to hire take the 4x4 up the hill. It was foggy when I arrived but after walking inside The Habitat the fog cleared up around noon and we got a pretty clear view of George Town from the sky walk. I recommend to visit The Habitat and enjoy the pleasant tour inside the forest before you end up at the sky walk. You can see the town from a higher place than the viewing deck next to the train station.

  • Pretty nice place if you come to Penang. But I think it's better if you pay more for all the attraction instead of entering and have to pay again and again for everything. Also it's quite hot up here of you come on noon. Morning is definitely better

  • Very nice.. top station have food and drink corner.. little village.. bee man attraction.. the best of all is the Habitat.. one person charged about 50RM for ticket..

  • The place is very nice. Can take public bus and hop-on hop-off. Taking Grab from Georgetown is around 20 to 30 mins, off peak is RM 11.00. Peak hours is less than RM20. Piece of advise, its very crowded during holiday and weekend. Have to que for more or less two hours so better buy express ticket instead of normal. Price is 3x more but worth it. A very good scene at the top. A lot of attractions to visit. Good food, nice people.. Locals advise to go for sunrise. Visit only weekdays. Must plan for your trip and give allowances in timing.

  • ... nice place to vacation with parents ... ... a good and care ticket price offer to senior citizens and disabled people ... ... thank you ~ Penang ...
