Dudley Cellar Door - Review

Jeff and Val Howard were originally wool and cattle farmers when they decided they needed a challenging hobby. The result was 20 acres of wine-fields and Kangaroo Island’s own original brand - ‘Shearing Shed Red’. It’s now the island’s most popular drink. The Dudley Cellar Door is 12 km from Penneshaw, located on a picturesque cliff-top. It’s as much a restaurant as it is a wineyard. Top items on the menu are wine, pizza, beer, and coffee. You dine on a deck with a fantastic view of the waters.

At the location, you’ll also find the boutique All Seasons Comfort, which is a range of clothing and accessories for all ages and gender made from all-Australian materials. They even have pet products.

Dudley Cellar Door, Penneshaw Reviews

  • The reds are good, the view is fantastic. The tasting is good, staff are very knowledgable. Book ahead to get a seat on the edge of the deck. However the food is fine, but overpriced. There are better food options on the island. The food is pretty much oysters and pizza. If they had a chef to offer a full menu, this would easily be the best place on the island.

  • Great restaurant/winery with a spectacular view ! I like to put it as a must-visit/eat place when in Kangaroo Island, worth any drive diversion. Price is reasonable and the food is excellent. We just had a pizza and a drink, and judging by the pizza, I am sure the rest of the food on the menu is just as good. Trust me, you like this place :)

  • Great service, lovely location, the food is nice and the atmosphere is friendly. A must visit location for any food and wine lovers visiting KI.

  • Spectacular view, courteous and charming service. Ray is a fountain of knowledge and is fabulous at describing how to experience these wonderful wines. This is surely the premier winery on Kangaroo Island and our choice location to advise our guests to visit. We recommend a late lunch with wine tasting as the food is also delicious. We look forward to our friends staying for a few days on KI as this always gives us an excuse to visit. Definitely a highlight of any holiday on Kangaroo Island and well worth staying an extra night on KI.

  • Lovely view some nice wines (but 12 a few too many to taste when you’re rushed through them) and a very limited food offering.
