Periyar National Park, Thekkady Reviews
Nice wildlife sanctuary. We got to see some wild buffaloes and elephants during our ferry ride. They also have a resort (run by the tourism department) right inside the sanctuary. Would like to stay at the resort next time, to enjoy the wilderness thoroughly and to experience mother nature at its fullest! Found this review useful? GIVE IT A LIKE to encourage me to keep doing the good work!
Periyar National Park in Kerala is a protected wildlife reserve. The area covering 350 sq km right in the middle of serene Periyar Lake was declared as a National Park in the year 1982. The National Park is situated right at the heart of Pandalam Hills and Cardamom Hills of Southern Western Ghats. Periyar National Park remains open for the most part of the year. Climate-wise, the best season to visit is during the winter months of November to February as the weather remains pleasant. Though, the aroma of wet mud during monsoon season gives a special appeal to the National park during this season, even though a lot of wildlife is not spotted at this time. Elephants in search of water come out during summer months of March to June and hence, for best wildlife viewing, summer is the best time to visit Periyar Tiger Reserve.
Periyar National park is a delightful, peaceful place. Not ideal for spotting big, flashy wildlife - it’s more the sort of contemplative place you would like to visit whilst working on a novel. The only activity worth writing about is the ferry ride - a lazy hour long ride down the backwaters, spent best in contemplative silence, trying to spot elephants on the shore
If you are a photographer and visiting Kerala then my suggestion you must go to this beautiful place you can capture amazing time lapse of clouds, while boating you can click too many pictures of animals, mountains and sky 😁😁 and the atmosphere of this national park is amazing, many foreigners do visit this beautiful place and this place is good to visit with your family and friends. And one more thing you have to pay extra charges for your camera 😂😂 and while collecting tickets please be careful with monkeys 😬😬 🐒🐒
It is a lovely place to spend some time with the family. Though I couldn't see any elephants or such animals there. We saw turtles, rare birds and wild buffaloes. The boat ride experience was pleasant. If you wish to see animals then opt for their night camp program as the boating is available only during the day. Best time for boating is at morning 7-10 am
