Castello di Vezio is located in the middle of the Lake Como in Varenna, Italy. Built around the eleventh-century, this castle has become a popular tourist attraction in the last decade. It was built for the purpose of controlling the surroundings and defending the nearby villages. Though it was restored numerous times throughout the centuries, it still has its ancient charm. It came into light after the remains of the tombs from Iron age were found here along with some armors and weapons in 1956. You can come here to admire this historically significant structure and also enjoy beautiful vistas it offers. Do not forget to check the weather forecast as it tends to remain closed if it rains.

The hike up is good. Be sure to bring extra water. We did the hike in 1 hour. Because the views where breathtaking. Once up we bought the tickets. Well worth it. If you want you can explore the grounds go down in the basement and all the way up the tower. In all we where there for 30 min. After we did this. We had an nice drink. We took a different path down. And this time it took us about 30 minutes.
Travellers, be advised the route to this Castle is very dangerous so they will close if there's even a hint of rain in the forecast. I docked them two stars for saving me from myself, twice. It's highly recommend to call in advance. However, it does look very pretty from other views in the area.
A fantastic attraction with sweeping views over the lake. The walk up to the castle makes it all the more worthwhile.
Nice place but very disappointing finding out there are several birds of pray in captivity only when you get inside. It looks like there are some demonstrations with them but i do not felt like the birds are kept in the best condition among loads of tourists passing by just a few meters away while they are chained on their claws. Others are kept in wooden or steel big cages but with very poor space to move around normally. Very sad, even if they tell you sad rescuing stories about them in the past,I guess they deserve much better :(
More like a Watch Tower than a castle. Awesome views of Lake Como. It's a very steep climb whichever way you go. The route up from the ferry station is a fairly continuous steady, steep climb, on a well made path with plenty of shade. The route up from the carpark is much rougher and much harder on knees and ankles, with very little shade.
