Castello Di Vezio - Review
Castello di Vezio is located in the middle of the Lake Como in Varenna, Italy. Built around the eleventh-century, this castle has become a popular tourist attraction in the last decade. It was built for the purpose of controlling the surroundings and defending the nearby villages. Though it was restored numerous times throughout the centuries, it still has its ancient charm. It came into light after the remains of the tombs from Iron age were found here along with some armors and weapons in 1956. You can come here to admire this historically significant structure and also enjoy beautiful vistas it offers. Do not forget to check the weather forecast as it tends to remain closed if it rains.

Castello Di Vezio, Perledo Reviews
More like a Watch Tower than a castle. Awesome views of Lake Como. It's a very steep climb whichever way you go. The route up from the ferry station is a fairly continuous steady, steep climb, on a well made path with plenty of shade. The route up from the carpark is much rougher and much harder on knees and ankles, with very little shade.
A steep for walk up but well worth it for the views especially from the top of the tower. It has a cafe which was very welcome. There is an old German artillery post in the dungeon which is easy to miss (and not on the information sheet). A torch is needed. You can't miss the ghosts which can be seen, honestly.
Best spot to view Lake Como. Take the path from south of town for the incline for best views, and decent on the north path for easier walking. Either way, not so trivial to get there but the hike is totally worth it. The castle also has annual selection of plaster shells casted around volunteer visitors to take human forms, then the “ghosts” placed around the castle grounds.
Gorgeous views. Nice cafe. Beautiful art. The hike to get there is short but brutal. Don't make the mistake we did and have lunch first!
Steep hike if you walk up but took about 20 minutes to reach top. Stones on path can be slippery so be careful! I slipped once coming down as path was wet due to brief rain shower. Take your time... Breathtaking views and well worth the effort. Stay for lunch as cafe there is good. Also falcon demonstration is worth it, despite being spoken entirely in Italian. Birds are beautiful and guide brings them around to crowd for close up pics after the talk.
