Chateau De Salses - Review
Built in the 15th century by Spaniards, the fortress was famous for guarding the previous border between Spain and France. Its architecture is intriguing for showing a clear metamorphosis of style from medieval castle to modern fortress. It’s quite a popular destination – over 10000 people visit it annually. Today, it also houses a sculpture museum. Check out the large wine-store near the castle – all the wine here is locally grown.
Trivia: Nobel Prize winning author Claude Simon lives nearby.

Chateau De Salses, Perpignan Reviews
Sitting snugly in the landscape, for defensive reasons, this is a great fortress site to visit; very different from the so called 'Cathar' castles to the north west; and as madame said " It would be a pity to miss the guided tour". She was informative friendly and amusing. Easy access and parking.
A really interesting place full of vibrant local history between Aragon and France. I recommend you start with a free walk around the fortress with the guide pamphlet to get a general understanding of the place and it’s history. Then take the guided tour which takes you up on the walls and into the Keep which has been partly restored so gives you a real flavour of what it may have been like. Small children need to be carried due up the steps but worth the effort. Great value at €8 per adult.
Really nice well presented castle with explainations in French, English and other languages. Lots to see and a few fun games for the kids to boot
Great fortress to visit! The guided tour is excellent, the staff is friendly, welcoming and the guide answered all the questions our group had.
Very well preserved historic fortress, the guided tour was really informative to help understand the design of the building and its defences.
