About Museu Casa De Santos Dumont, Petropolis

This French Alpine style summer residence of Alberto Santos Dumont, famous Brazilian inventor, balloonist and aviator, was built in 1918. He and others called the house ‘Enchanted’, after the name of the hill on which it stood. Inside, the house’s layout is highly efficient. The ground floor was a workshop and a scientific laboratory; the second floor has a mezzanine, a bedroom and bathroom; and a rooftop gazebo that served as an astronomy observatory. It was also the first house in Brazil to have running hot water for bathing. Beautifully eccentric, this is the kind of house most romantics dream of owning.

Museu Casa De Santos Dumont, Petropolis Reviews

  • Beautiful site with a rich history and gorgeous scale replicas of Santos' creations, and the original house designed by Santos Dumont himself. The entrance fee is decent, and they offer a video (with English subtitles) that tells the true story of Mr. Dumont. This is a must-visit site for fans of aviation history. Keep in mind the stairs are steep (which is part of the original history of the house), but there is an elevator available for people who have difficulty.

  • Great a place to visit. The house is small but it presents you about the Santos Dumont simplicity and geniality.

  • Quick visit. Hard to find detailed info.

  • An enchanted place to visit adults and kids.

  • the first fly! This guy was very eccentric and his house proves it! A unique way of living. Make sure you watch the video.
