Wilhelmsburg, also known as The Fortress of Ulm, is one of the largest fortifications in Germany. Built in the eighteenth-century, this castle was used for military purpose and as a refugee camp for most of the time. There is a beautiful walking trail along the castle which allows you to explore the castle on your own. There is a tower right next to the Fortress of Ulm. You can enjoy panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes from here. A real treat for history buffs, visit this castle to understand the local history.

Great visit, organized by German Army
Nice place to walk around.
Not much to see at the fortress itself unless you go into the museum, but the nature around makes for a great hike. Just make sure to wear komfy shoes and pay attention that the fortress is on a hill which means not too many flat paths to walk on. Most of the paths through the surrounding woods are gravel and those which are not are still solid. I was there during the spring which means everything was blooming but during the winter it might be slippery.
Nice place for beginners to do Mountain cycling
One of the old fortress opens at 11am and closes around 1pm..
