Zangtho Pelri Lhakhang - Review

This temple or lhakhang located in the centre of the city Phuentsholing is a representation of the celestial abode of Guru Rinpoche, albeit in concrete. On the ground floor, you will find statues of the eight manifestations of Guru Rinpoche, or the eight principal forms that he assumed at different points in his life. The walls are adorned with paintings depicting the lift of Buddha. On the next floor you will find eight Bodhisattavas and statues of Avalokiteshvara and Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal while the top floor hosts the main statue of Amitabha.

The garden surrounding the modern Zangto Pelri Lhakhang is very pleasant for a stroll and there are generally pilgrims there to pay their homage, spinning the prayer wheels that send their prayers spiralling up into the heavens. This is great for a glimpse into Bhutanese cultural heritage and to witness their intriguing method of worship.

  • It, as it seems, is the only place in the town that is quaint and refreshing amidst the hustle and bustle in its surrounding spaces. It is also an instant attraction to the people passing by the same particularly, the Indian residents. I have often seen them frequent this place for site-seeing and some clicks. The place is suitable for a visit for people of all ages. As you can see, there are some elderly who come here to pray and circumambulate; there are teens who come here to meet their friends; there are kids who enjoy playing there; and there are some shoppers too who come there for some rest too. And lately, the setting up of open gym inside this facility has added more to this place. Worth a visit, for sure.

  • Beautiful park, ideal place to relax. Calm & peaceful retreat for all visitors, cleanliness is also good.

  • Wonderful place on earth. Gateway to Bhutan. Very good monastery.
