OTOP stands for One Tambon One Product. This is taken from a similar Japanese scheme in which the single greatest product from a particular village or neighbourhood is chosen to be sold at the Central Market. The product becomes the defining representative of that neighbourhood and helps improve the source neighbourhood’s image and brand. The market draws its crowd by the way of the many bars that opens up around it at night. It is otherwise quite quiet in the daytime. But once you get started on shopping, if you're a shopaholic, you are going to have a ball. T-shirts, travel bags, silly apparel, handicraft, picture frames and vases - the collection is very eclectic.
