Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. is an American chain of combined restaurant and gift stores with a Southern country theme. The company was founded by Dan Evins in 1969. He started his business from a small town called Lebanon. Folks in Lebanon love their town which is comfortable, friendly, and a great place to come home to. Dan always saw mealtime is a time to catch up with your family, your friends, and your thoughts. Food was not meant to be swallowed down in three bites with a squeeze of ketchup.

What Dan had in mind was a place called the country store, something every small community once had. People traveling on the big new highways appreciate a clean, comfortable, relaxed place to stop in for a good meal and some shopping for gifts and other articles to show America’s country heritage. He wanted the meals to be simple and wholesome, with just prices. The early stores also sold gasoline which was Dan’s family business.

Cracker Barrel continued to grow and in 1981 the company went public with its stock. Institutions Magazine stated this company was one of the Nation’s foremost growth chains, while Money Magazine recorded the company as one of the top ten stocks in America. The praise and popularity which was bestowed upon Cracker Barrel for its home style cooking took it to a new level. More stores opened up and today, there are over 600 stores in 42 states.
