The Original Mels has been serving up fun and great food since 1947. It is from a bye gone era that offers a humble and friendly atmosphere with delectable food for the whole family. It started with Mel Weiss and Harold Dobbs who used to entice guests with radio personality Wolfman Jack. The legendary restaurant was soon put up for sale but George Lucas filmed his classic film ‘American Graffiti’ and rekindled the spirit of the 50’s at this restaurant. Today this spirit lives on.
Mel’s Diner soon became the setting for the American TV series Alice. It revolved around three waitresses, Alice and Mel Sharples, the owner and cook in the serial. Most of the scenes take place in the diner and this hit series brought back the diner to life. Today they have branched with a chain of diners all across California and Nevada.
The interior of Mel’s Diner is an authentic 1950’s diner. The place feels cosy in its chrome background, vintage signs and a throwback style Jukebox with booths. The drawings of the antique vehicles on the windows gives this place special twist. The food served is also classic diner food, from malts and banana splits to burgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings and more. Their starters are named after the characters of Happy Days, Joanie and Chachi, Fonzarelli and Potsy, and you'll find a lot of references to celebrities from the 50s throughout the menu.
They have the shrimp basket, wings, onion rings, and pulled pork sandwich and some delicious burgers. They also have celebrity Bar Cocktails and special of the day. Keep the receipt to get a discount for your next visit. Over the years, the restaurant built a reputation for good food, prompt and friendly service, cleanliness, and reasonable prices. Many eat at Mel's every day (some more than once a day) and have for years. They refer to Mel's as their kitchen. The waitresses serve in a courteous manner and they are cheerful. They use 100% Trans Fat Free oil to fry and the food is prepared under immaculate conditions.

Mel's Diner Incorporated Reviews & Ratings
We came here because of the good reviews (better than most in the area). I would not say I was disappointed, as I arrived with the understanding I was eating at a diner. Who has ever been to a diner and had a gourmet meal? So to be clear this is diner food and with the tourist air to the menu and guests you might think to expect of busy Pigeon Forge. If I ate this food at a cafeteria somewhere I’d not be surprised or pleased, nor disappointed; it would fit right in. It’s not healthy or craft meals it’s a funk southern diner that serves food that will mostly clog your arteries and that’s fun. I ate chicken pot pie and fried okra albeit a bit boring and the missus had a knife and fork hot dog platter (I know, I know) with some chili cheese fries. Well that’s sort of the brand of food here after all. It was fun and tasty enough. Staff are friendly and service moves quickly! Cute place, good staff, decent food?
My husband and I went to Mel’s while vacationing in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. I had The chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and he had liver and onions. Everything was absolutely delicious! The staff was friendly and personable! The interior was fun with great music. If you’re in the area this is a must do, you won’t be disappointed.
Had breakfast there today...was outstanding!! Somewhat crowded but food was out very quick, fresh cooked and perfect. Our server was Virginia B and nothing short of awesome. The decor is throwback 50's,this is a must stop place. You will not be disappointed.
Our family of 4 ate breakfast today. It was amazing as was the service. You can't beat it. Great prices, large portions, hot and fresh. If you leave still hungry it's your fault. Last year we spent a few days in town and ate at Mel's for breakfast 3 times.
Of all the places my wife and I visited on our honeymoon, this had to be my favorite! If you're a fan of the classic diner atmosphere, this is the best place to go. We were seated quickly, given prompt refills on drinks, and the food (which was exceptional) also arrived fast. It's a fun place to visit, not very expensive, and has a great menu. Be sure to check it out!
