Add Spanish, African and Caribbean cuisine into one pot and watch Cuban cuisine take shape. Cuban cuisine is a combination of culture and ingredient which dates way back to this islands history. Blessed with natural resources, Cuban food boasts of variety to satisfy your gourmet needs. Come to the Smokies Cuban Cafe for an authentic Cuban meal.

Cassava, taro root, corn and black beans are the basic food for the Cuban Indians. The Spanish colonisers brought cash crops of coffee and sugar, and stuffed roasted meats and peppers. The African slave brought okra and plantain. Being an island seafood greatly influences Cuban cuisine. Another contributing factor to Cuban cuisine is the fact that Cuba is in a tropical climate. The tropical climate produces fruits and root vegetables that are used in Cuban dishes and meals.

The Smokies Cuban Cafe puts fresh flavours together to make a tapestry of dishes that echo Cuba's unique culture. Try their Vaca Frita, fried shredded beef or Bistec Empanisado that is breaded steak and savour the wonderful taste. The Cuban sandwich or Roast Pork sandwich comes with ham and pork on Cuban bread. Most of what is on the menu relies on a few basic spices, such as garlic, cumin, and oregano. Many dishes use a sofrito as their basis. Sofrito, consists of onion, green pepper, garlic, oregano, and ground pepper quick-fried in olive oil. The sofrito is what gives certain foods their distinctive flavour. They use this in cooking black beans, stews, various meat dishes, and tomato-based sauces. They marinate the meat in citrus juices and then roast over low heat till tender. Another common Cuban diet is yucca, Malanga and boniato which are root vegetables. These vegetables are marinated in mojo, which is a combination of hot olive oil with lemon juice. In this is added slices of raw onions, garlic, cumin and water.

  • This was our favorite place to eat while in Pigeon Forge. We were the last two customers of the night but the food was still hot and fresh. The staff was very friendly and treated us just like we were family which is rare these days. We really enjoyed eating here. I would HIGHLY recommend stopping in for a bite. (and definitely get the yucca fries they are incredible)...

  • Went there this weekend. Me my wife and daughter. All ordered sandwiches. My wife and I got a Cuban. And my daughter got some kind of steak sandwich. When they brought them they was already cold. And the 2 Cubans was so dry . You really couldn't eat them. The steak sandwich was the same way but had no flavor. Then with tip and everything it was over 50.00 for 3 sandwiches and fries. The fries was good but came out after our sandwiches. Maybe something besides the sandwiches is good. But we won't be back.

  • This place is amazing! If you are in Pigeon Forge, this is a place to try out for the real taste of Cuban food. Super friendly staff very nice atmosphere. Two thumbs up in my book.

  • Just not the same... food wasnt as good, the service wasn't there even with an army of people working - seemed disorganized as no one knew what they were doing or for what they were responsible. Building remodel looks great - big improvement.

  • Great authentic dishes with wonderful seasoning. Good portion sizes. Nice clean place with friendly service. Will definitely be back when I return to the area
