Pilgrim’s Rest is a small museum town in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. This town is protected as a provincial heritage site. It was here that Alec Patterson discovered the alluvial gold. In the following years, alluvial gold dwindles and prospectors found about this town and many mining companies were set up here. In 1971, mining was shut, and the town was sold to the government which then turned into a national museum. Today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this town is a part of the Panorama Route.
