Thompson Pond is a 75-acre glacial kettle pond standing at an elevation of 428 meters on Stissing Mountain. There are about 387 species of plants in the area that include hickory and hemlock trees, sugar maple, ash, and oak trees. There are about 162 bird species and 27 kinds of mammals in the preserve. Thompson pond has been designated as a world heritage site. The site provides activities like birding, paddle sports, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and wildlife viewing to the visitors.
