The museum was founded in 1983, and is situated in the north side of Pittsburgh. It was expanded in the early 2000s into the defunct planetarium building nearby, which made it the largest Silver LEED certified museum in the country. It is well known for all its exhibits being extremely child friendly and interactive, which makes it a lot of fun for both the kids and the parents as well! It is also known for its famous ‘backyard’, which is open from 11 am to 4:30 pm everyday. It is an outdoor play space which provides lots of interactive pieces by artists and designers that focus on natural elements

  • Don’t forget to check out the newest addition to the museum, named Bounce, a unique, interactive exhibit celebrating the world's most amazing ball.

  • Well set up. Parent friendly. Good nutritious food options. Art room could have had a little clearer instructions, but otherwise great. Each room is very unique and interesting. Good for kids of different ages. 2 and 4 year old were very well entertained. Loved the ability to see the entire room from the parent chairs. I could feed my baby while watching the other two. Thanks! Would definitely recommend.

  • Stopped in with our 5 year old and everything seemed just about right for her and she had a great time. It was hard to drag her out of there. We kept getting requests for “one more thing” that we accommodated a few times and then finally had to go. Check out the store for some reasonably priced instructional toys. Some places really gouge you on that stuff but this one didn’t. All of the staff was really nice and helpful. I really wish we lived closer and could go back all the time. We’ll be back whenever we’re In the area If you’re a vet don’t forget to get your discount. It’s huge for this place.

  • I have been in many children's museum, and this one is is truly special . My 6 and 9 years old loved the combination of Art (this is not just a museum, they MAKE art in that building) and technology. Worth the detour. Note that we did not pay any entry fee, because there was a reciprocity with the Michigan Science center. Beautiful building too. Note the cooling water feature a few feet away from the building (emits a water steam to cool kids)...

  • Had been last year... it’s a good museum for kids.. lot of things and activities to do for kids including some water activities ... they also have good canteen with varieties of food and soft drinks.. good family place to spend some time with your kids...Entry will be 5$ I guess, not sure of current price.. staff are helpful..

  • Fantastic! The Museum Lab was great for our kids (ages 11-15)! They enjoyed exploring the different art activities and used their creativity in the Maker's Lab! The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable!
