Frick Park is the largest municipal park in Pittsburgh, covering an area of 561 acres. It is one of a few areas around the city that Henry Clay Frick helped industrialize, turning it into an area where steep ravines and mature woods remain relatively undisturbed, forming a nature reserve of native plants and abundant wildlife which are protected from outside harm. A number of fascinating animals and birds, including owls, amphibians, wild turkey, fox, and many mammal species are found in the park.

Today, Frick Park stretches all the way from Point Breeze in the north to the Monongahela River. It is known as Pittsburgh’s woodland park, because of the many trails that lead through steep valleys and wooded slopes. The main park also has many playgrounds, red clay tennis courts as well as the Frick Environmental Centre. Clayton Hill is a favourite for bird enthusiasts, as over 100 species of birds have been identified on the hill. It is an ideal place to steal away from the incessant noise of the city.

  • The eastern park boundary is Nine Mile Run, a formerly heavily polluted stream that has been restored to its natural beauty with an innovative water catchment design.
  • In one section of the park, there is a playground with a blue slide going down a steep hill and that playground is therefore known as the famous blue slide park.

Frick Park was a gift from Henry Clay Frick to the people of the city, and it continues to serve Pittsburgh residents and tourists alike even today.

Frick Park Reviews & Ratings

  • Great park in Pittsburgh. If I’m not mistaken, it’s one of the largest urban parks in the country! Great place to take a hike/walk, take your dogs, play some sports, and located in a great neighborhood! I have been here several times and would definitely return!!

  • Been going to this park since a young child. Now I take my children there and I love seeing them having just as much fun as I did. Afterwards we usually go visit the ice cream shop across the street. Only complaint is the busy street and not a lot of parking. Ride the bus!

  • Frick Park is huge & there are so many parts to love! I enjoy the hiking trails, the tennis court & they have really upgraded over the years with a great sitting area with the benches, fountains, restrooms & water fountains. You never know how many different animals & birds that you'll get to see, it's amazing!

  • Really liked the trail options: hilly trails, flat trails, points of interest. Covered parking using solar panels, good idea. Will definitely return.

  • I love it for Mountain biking. Great and technical single track/fast flowy downhill. Double track and flat wide hiking trails for inexperienced riders or those who just like to be in the woods without having to be able to climb long hills
