Barceló Maya Beach, Playa Del Carmen Reviews
My wife and I recently stayed at this resort. Unfortunately we hit a bad stretch of weather the week we were there. The trip was a gift to our oldest daughter for her college graduation. Absolutely gorgeous place. Nice people. Very clean. Wonderful landscaping. Now the problem we had. Mid week we had a pretty good amount of rain. Our room was on the 3rd floor and the roof began to leak into our room in 3 different areas. Over a bed . In the closet where the safe is. And in the bathroom over the toilet. I called the front desk. They sent two gentleman up about 40 minutes later looking for a leaky pipe in the bathroom. I explained to them that it was a roof leak. Showed them the area's of the leaks. they looked at each other and said to me we'll be back . We didn't hear from them for the rest of the night. Called again in the morning. Was told they were looking into the problem. Never heard anything the rest of the week. A little bit disheartening considering we spent a good amount of $$$$$s on this trip. It would have been 5 🌟 s if we didn't have to deal with wet towels on the floor sopping up puddles.
Great location and lots across the Resort to do. Rooms a little dated though, but comfortable for the time we were there. Staff work incredibly hard. The only down fall are the availability for the A later carte restaurants. Arrived on Thursday and first reservation we could get was for the following Monday. So we booked our allocated 10 slots in one go. Otherwise a lovely time there.
Very huge resort. The food is very good. There is so many different restaurants that you won’t get bored of the food. The hibachi and Italian restaurant were great. The service is mediocre but at the Barcelona palace the service is top notch. There is a lot to do for the kids and adults. The water park is not worth it for the extra 20 dollars per person a day don’t do it. Rooms were very clean. Get your walking shoes because it takes half hour to go through the resort. Pools are great and very well maintained. The beach has a lot of seaweed and the sand and water are very rocky.
My family and I stayed here for a week. The hotel was beautiful. It had so many activities within the hotel which was great. One down about it was the staff, they weren’t friendly, if you were still eating (at the buffet) they’d take your plate. We saw breakfast food put in the lunch/dinner food too. The same food. Maybe like five foods were changed and everyday you’d eat the same thing. If you come to Mexico, you’re going to want the culture, the shows at night were Michael Jackson, Cuban night (we’re in Mexico, why put a whole different country) and opera!!! You’d expect Mexican culture. When you’d go to the buffet, they had leaks and it’d fall on your plate. Our room was pretty icky and the sheets were humid. Overall, I can’t give it more than 3 stars. Don’t recommend.
For me safety was my biggest concern after I heard some many bad news about drugs on the area.. First let me say that is nothing to do with the tourists area , everything is super secure I had never felt insecure...the hotel by itself it’s like a private community it has a gate to have only access to the guests, this hotel is amazing , super friendly staff, food excellent, rooms really clean great conditions and really comfy bed, activities amazing like snorkeling kayaking etc.. and night entertainment was really cool I wish I could see more Mexican shows to have the feeling that you are there.. thank you Barcelo for giving us the best vacations for me and my family
