One of the few caves around Playa del Carmen that can be accessed even without a tour, the Cenote Chaak Tun is one of the most understated yet stunning attractions around the city. A small entrance fee and you can swim around to the depth of the cave to admire the spellbinding, massive stalactites and stalagmites. The cave can get pretty dark since the only light source is a small sinking hole in the ceiling but if you rent out a head light, you will be love to see just how untouched and unique this cave is.

There are no fenced areas and no places that can only be accessed by guided tours, so you are free to explore the cave like a public place. The entrance fee includes wetsuits and snorkelling equipment that makes a visit here literally a spontaneous adventure! Grab on to some good shoes and come here to see the magical cave without all the “touristy” touches.
