Sandos Caracol Eco Resort, Playa Del Carmen Reviews - Write a Review

  • We have been in several vacations as a family and this was by far the best thing our family has ever done together. The rooms were modern and very clean. There was always staff doing upkeep on the buildings, nothing seemed run-down. We have 4 kids so we had to pay for two rooms, which I think is standard among all resorts. The food is very good. Does not seem like cafeteria good like some resort we have stayed at. I never felt sick from the food. The staff are all very friendly and very hard working and yet do not act needy for tips. The only thing that was a downside for me was the coral off the main beach. It was a little hard for the kids to play in the ocean, but they got there fill and there was so many other things to do and see on the resort that they didn't feel deprived. I would recommend this resort to everyone but it caters particularly well to families. We will definitely be planning another trip here!

  • AMAZING resort plus friendliest staff!!!!! Our family just got back from staying a week at the resort and we all had a great time. Water slides - I believe a couple slides were closed or being worked on but really we didn't even make it to the water slides b/c we had so much fun at other things at the resort. Rather be at the beach than water slides. Food - the food was delicious and so much of it. Our favorite was the Mexican restaurant at night and the International during for breakfast - we just LOVED the omelets plus all the delicious fruit. Beach - we spend so much time on the beach. Our family favorite!!! Beautiful sand - few rocks/coral in the ocean but our family just went around them or found a different sport to swim. Chairs were always available on the beach. We also snorkeled from the shop on the beach - great experience for the family. Didn't get to see any turtles but saw plenty of fish and stingrays. Drinks - so many bars to get beverages which was great and of course the drinks were delicious!!! Animals - all the animals were so great - our family just loved seeing them around the resort. Couldn't believe monkeys were just walking down the sidewalk. Signed up for the Dolphin Discovery which was so much fun - we all were pushed by the dolphins, had lunch there and enjoyed their beach. The only complaint we had was when we first got to the resort and we were sat down with a resort staff showing us the information then goes into the different things we can sign up for - dolphins, snorkeling, etc. We had just flown 4 hours, were still in our travel clothes, were hungry, tired, etc. Felt bad b/c my husband had to be kind of rude for them to stop their sales pitch. We just wanted to hit our room then maybe later that evening or next day meet with them. Amazing resort overall and we cannot wait to return.

  • I would rate this resort a solid 2 or 3 stars. The only reason I'm giving it 3 star's is because of the water slides. The resorts roof in multiple buildings is in desperate need of repair. Unfortunately we had multiple days of rain on our trip and we experienced the rain both at the pool and while we tried to eat breakfast, dinner and's not very much fun getting rained on while you eat. The resort has a great kids facility but only for ages 4-8 a 9 or 10 year old will struggle to amuse themselves. The buffet food was descent and the a la carte's were above average. The pool was being refinished which was not revealed to us at booking. The pool that was open was okay but no swim up bar and not enough space for the amount of people. The beach sand was excellent but the ocean itself had a lot of coral and weeds and not suitable for children. I wanted to like this resort but sadly it was very average at best.

  • We stayed here for a honeymoon in 2009 and found the place very charming, but with some definite quirks and issues that mean five stars isn't on the cards. I'm sure these issues have been addressed in the intervening decade, but suffice to stay that we'd return again if the chance were available. Good food, quiet beaches away from the madness of the tourist areas, and pretty nice pools.

  • We just returned from the Sandos. What an amazing time we had. The resort was awesome. Great food, entertainment and just an overall great time. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great family vacation. :)
