The Tortuga Marina Sanctuary is a beach area known for preserving turtles. With white sand that covers a stretch 2.6 kilometres, a reef area that spreads form the Yucatan Peninsula to the Chetumal bay and is deemed to be the second most important reef in the world and the view of the Carribbena sea to complete the experience, the Tortuga Marina Sanctuary is just where you need to be if you like beaches that are low key.

The most fascinating part about the area is the reef system that is home to around 102 species of fishes. Since the reef is not continuous the turtles nest around in the spaces and come to the beach to lay eggs. The two most important species of turtles conserved here are the loggerhead turtle and the white turtle that come to the beach to lay eggs from May to October. For casual visitor, the beach is a almost a secluded spot with very minimal crowd. Come here for a dip in the sea, to get a tan or to simply enjoy a picnic on the beautiful sands. If you can, don’t forget to spot turtles around! A short distance from the beach, you can find a fresh water cave that allows groups of 6 people to explore its beautiful formations.
