Bachkovo Monastery, Plovdiv Reviews
Great surprise. The paints are extremely beautiful and we were astonished by the quantity and quality of the fresh paint around both chapels. Monks were very friendly and allowed us to take pictures. They even opened the small Chapel so we can visit it. Sadly the monastery is under renovation and the patio is kinda messy, but is still worth the visit. After Rila my favourite monastery in the country.
Amazing monastery. Beautiful painting and ceiling. As Augusut 2018, there’s a rennovation on some buildings.
We had a lovely time there. The frescos in the main church are in fabulous condition. Don't forget to check out St Nicholas Church in the new part of the monastery. There are some very nice nature trails in the area that abut the monastery grounds. There you can find picnic grounds and waterfalls.
One of the beautiful monasteries in Bulgaria. Extremely preserved and restored. It is beautifully situated on a ledge, on the right from the Valley of Chepelarska River, close to the village of Bachkovo. Bachkovo monastery is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria. The weekends and on big orthodox holidays large groups of tourists come to visit this place. The monastery estate is almost 8000 sq.m and about 440 meters above sea level. It includes two yards and four churches.
