Burrator Reservoir - Review

Surrounded by mixed woodland, this is a natural bounty and is popular as a picnic spot. • The most beautiful place for a walk. You can either follow the road around the reservoir or, explore the many footpaths that branch off of it. These paths do get muddy and boggy easily, even in summer so, decent footwear is needed.

  • We enjoyed a stroll around the reservoir, as one of the biggest (if not the biggest) on Dartmoor it's a sturdy walk but even our young kids managed it without complaint. At the moment the water level is low so we walked around by the lake, climbed onto rocks, squelched through muddy pools, got a bit lost trying to find paths back up to the road.. all things that an adventure should be. Useful to note public toilets are on the Southern tip of the reservoir.

  • Gorgeous family walks can be as long or as short as you like finish off with an ice cream! Also good running route. 3.5 miles to go all the way around only slight hills.

  • Burrator reservoir is one of my favourite local places to visit. We often come here for walks and it always looks great no matter the weather. As a filmmaker and photographer, it’s a fantastic cinematic location.

  • Beautiful scenery and a couple of great walks there.
