The Pabalu Vehera stupa is believed to be built by King Parakramabahu’s consort, Queen Rupawathi in the 12th century. While the original name of this stupa is not known, the current name Pabalu was derived from the fact that this stupa is covered in many glass beads. Today in ruins, you will see that the top part of the stupa has been destroyed by the invaders. On the inside, the stupa has nine image houses that contain sitting as well as standing images of Buddha.
