Isla Caja De Muertos

Nestled deep in the waters off the coast of Puerto Rico is a tiny isle by the name Caja De Muertos. Uninhabited, the island aims at preserving its natural flora and fauna and is thus protected by the Reserva Natural Caja de Muertos. It is native to various turtle species, and thus of great natural importance. A ferry can take you to the island, and once there, it is as if you have stepped away from the world into a different land. Vibrant shades of green, tranquil hues of blue and the fresh sea breeze make for a lovely combination. The four beaches that together make the entire shoreline of the island are no less than a surreal painting. The legends that surround the island are very interesting, so, do try and delve into its past.

  • Beautiful Great Waves great people great food

  • It's beautiful what else can I say.

  • I grew up in PR. I’m ashamed to say I never visited this island until Last October. This island has one of the best beaches of PR. I’ve snorkeled all over Hawaii. The turquoise waters of this island are comparable to some of the beaches in Maui, Hawaii. I saw under the dock the bigger at boxer fix ever!!!! It was enormous. The eyes were bigger than the size of a cow’s eye!!! Getting to caja de muerto: Call island ventures They usually only make 1 trip per day — departing from La Guancha Marina at 8:30am sharp and departing from the island at 3:30pm. The boat trip takes 30 minutes. They no longer allow you to bring beach chairs, umbrellas or coolers on the boat, but they have chairs, umbrellas, kayaks and SUP’s for rent now also. And food/drinks are included in the trip. The crew was great. I was amazed to see cactuses were as high as some of the cactuses I saw in Tucson, Az. There’s a good hike to the light house. Bring comfortable tennis shoes. The hike can get steep in some areas. Caja de Muertos is one of Puerto Rico’s Nature Reserves, a municipality of Ponce. The island is a wonderful destination for beach and nature lovers seeking to experience the pleasures of an uninhabited island free of development. The island was voted as as one of the “The Ten Enchanting Natural Attractions of Puerto Rico I regret I didn’t make an effort to visit it before. It’s only 8 miles from the mainland. I only paid $60 to get ther by ferry and included food. This is a must see destination.

  • Beautiful small island off the coast of Ponce. You can take a ferry from La Guancha to this island. You will enjoy a beautiful beach with white sand but it does have a lot of rocks on the beach area also. When you come here, take the time to walk over to the abandoned Lighthouse. The view is amazing but I will be honest, the walk is about 30 to 45 minutes both ways. It depends on how fast you walk. Plus due to the weather, it's a bit difficult and you will sweat. Not much shaded areas so rent an umbrella. You can also take one of the benches but it's a small walk away from the beach area. For a small fee you can bring your own personal items. Like a small/mid size cooler with drinks, water, chips and dips, sandwiches and some fruits. To me the food on the ferry is not worth purchasing and spending money on. High price for hotdogs, french fries, fruit juice and water. After your day has ended, make a quick stop at the dock and hit La Guancha area for low prices on good meal with drinks.

  • Serene, beautiful. Paradise in Ponce.
