Set in the historic timber building that was the original court house, the museum showcases the history of Port Douglas. The building itself dates back to 1879 and the architecture is simplistic and typical of the time. It is the second oldest building in Port Douglas. One of the interesting displays is of Elle Thompson, the only woman to be legally hanged in Queensland for the murder of her husband. Other displays highlight the development, shipping, sugar cultivation in the area and the Coral Sea battle.
