Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas - Review

A must visit attraction in Port Douglas, the Wildlife Habitat is one of the best nature parks in Queensland. It gives visitors the opportunity to explore three distinct ecosystems filled with native flora and fauna. The Wildlife Habitat also has a unique activity where visitors can have “Breakfast with the Birds” or “Lunch with the Lorikeets”. Both activities can be pre-booked and allow visitors a chance to interact with the birds that visit your table while you enjoy a heart buffet meal in an outdoor tropical ambience.  The park also gives you an opportunity to interact with kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles and many more native animals. The meals are served in the Wildlife Café and there is also a souvenir and gift shop in the park.

  • Great set-up. The wildlife even had nests on the top door hinges, so half door was shut....so good! There was a beautiful owl observing us in the entry shop area. When you head through the doors to the habitats you realise you are in their space not yours. Signs saying 'Do not touch the animals' do not apply to them. Very disconcerting having a black cockatoo check out your party by shoulder hopping all 7 of us. The kids loved it. Their favourite was feeding the kangaroos, we had difficulty getting them to leave that section. Definitely needed longer to really appreciate all that is available. The spotter sheet was great value, colour printed, named and informative. Even the youngest was able to find different birds and animals and mark them off. We visited off a cruise ship and 3 hours was not long enough. Would go back and spend the day there given the opportunity. Many thanks for a wonderful time.

  • Absolutely spectacular! Expected a small petting zoo, but it's so much more than that. Fantastic birds, kangaroos, turtles, koalas, crocodiles, lizards. Totally interactive and a must-do experience. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't carve out at least a couple hours to check it out.

  • I’ve been here many times and this is the optimum family experience in Port Douglas especially if you love the interaction with birds. It’s a breakfast experience that probably suits better as an early morning visit prior to airport transfer - it works well in this time slot and doesn’t interfere with your full day outings. Staff are awesome and very accommodating and nice coffee and breakfast.

  • Wildlife Habitat was pretty good. Staff brought a few birds into the eating area around 11:30am and people could go over and have them sit on their arm. The wallabies weren't that interested in eating the food, but the birds were and that was a bit annoying. Parts of the park were closed due to renovations, but we could still see all the animals. A highlight for me was seeing a tree kangaroo up in a tree (near the koala enclosure) and seeing a Lesser Sooty Owl up close. It was amazing. An enjoyable day out for the family.

  • Great little experiential zoo. Instead of seeing animals in enclosures, you're in the enclosure with most of the animals. Crowds are small or non-existent. Feeding wallabies, kangaroos, and interacting with most animals. Don't rush through just to see each animal. Instead, take your time and look in all the nooks and crannies. Can you find the frogmouths? They're closer than you think. Watch birds build nests, mate, feed their chicks. A very peaceful and special place. No need to sign up for the special meals. Everyone is invited. And the best... Your entry is good for 5 days, do you can come and go as you please.
