Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas - Review

A must visit attraction in Port Douglas, the Wildlife Habitat is one of the best nature parks in Queensland. It gives visitors the opportunity to explore three distinct ecosystems filled with native flora and fauna. The Wildlife Habitat also has a unique activity where visitors can have “Breakfast with the Birds” or “Lunch with the Lorikeets”. Both activities can be pre-booked and allow visitors a chance to interact with the birds that visit your table while you enjoy a heart buffet meal in an outdoor tropical ambience.  The park also gives you an opportunity to interact with kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles and many more native animals. The meals are served in the Wildlife Café and there is also a souvenir and gift shop in the park.

  • I highly recommend the nocturnal tour. It was a small group lead by a knowledgeable ranger. The tour began around 5.30pm & we spent some time with the kangaroos & crocodiles while the sun was setting before visiting the owls & other nocturnal animals. It was fantastic seeing these animals awake & moving around - after so many zoo visits where you were lucky to glimpse them sleeping inside a log! We got to feed meal worms to a Tawny Frogmouth & enter the cage with the little gliders.

  • A great way to kill a couple of hours or more. Animals are healthy and living in a well maintained environment. Loved being able to interact with the kangaroos and wallabies and some of them were carrying joeys which was great to see. Not many places allow you to get up so close and personal with the animals. We don't support the staged photo opportunities with wild animals so didn't hold the koala for a photo. Well worth the visit and will be returning as they offer a free return that can be used for 4 consecutive days as we didn't see the Crocs being fed.

  • We really enjoyed the breakfast with the birds and got 3 hours of quality entertainment from taking our time around the exhibits. Our 8 year old loved feeding the Wallabies and Kangaroos and we thought the animals were all well cared for and enclosures maintained. Definitely worth a visit if you are near Port Douglas.

  • Staff are always great here. Great for a whole day or half a day activity. Just strolling through the habitat makes you calm and there is so much to see. You can start by having breakfast with the birds where there is a yummy buffet where you can eat up for the day. You can then wlak through the park and buy kangaroo food to feed the kangaroo. Although sometimes they are full. An emu came up behind me when i was younger and started swaying its head and neck side to side. That was a experience never to forget. Many memories made here.

  • Great set-up. The wildlife even had nests on the top door hinges, so half door was shut....so good! There was a beautiful owl observing us in the entry shop area. When you head through the doors to the habitats you realise you are in their space not yours. Signs saying 'Do not touch the animals' do not apply to them. Very disconcerting having a black cockatoo check out your party by shoulder hopping all 7 of us. The kids loved it. Their favourite was feeding the kangaroos, we had difficulty getting them to leave that section. Definitely needed longer to really appreciate all that is available. The spotter sheet was great value, colour printed, named and informative. Even the youngest was able to find different birds and animals and mark them off. We visited off a cruise ship and 3 hours was not long enough. Would go back and spend the day there given the opportunity. Many thanks for a wonderful time.
