Ballerinas have pranced with their twinkling toes, actors have swooped and exclaimed, instrumentalists have strummed and singers have crooned upon the stage of Queen’s Hall. If you love the arts and are craving a good musical or theatrical performance, then head over to this multi-purpose theater styled hall and immerse yourself in soothing sounds and graceful movements.
Built in 1959 by the musical community of Trinidad, led by Mrs May Johnstone, the hall has stood the test of time. Its opening night featured famous composer Pat Castagne, folk artist Olive Walke, Aubrey Adams and Beryl McBurnie, the famous Trinidadian dancer. Ever since its premier show, the hall hasn’t looked back, with all kinds of performers and entertainers gracing its stage to the delight of a captivated audience. The building was originally created in a contemporary style, suited to the weather and sound proof but by the 1980’s, the hall was in desperate need of renovations. The hall was soon renovated and stands today new and improved, now equipped with a box office, ramp access for the physically challenged, a beautiful garden area, a lobby and elegant landscaping.
Today, the hall plays host to a variety of world class events, usually of the performing arts. With a fantastic sound system and top notch lights, the best performers in the Caribbean come and perform at this venue, most notably the theater group The Marionettes. Besides the arts, there are numerous corporate and social soirees that take place here as well. During Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthday functions, the courtyard is all pretty and decked up and the grassy gardens are filled with people and laughter. You can catch the ‘Sound of Music’, backed up by an all steel drum orchestra, or catch another classic, spiced up with some Mediterranean flair in the comfy confines of this aptly named regal hall.
