The name refers to both the park on the river and the long pedestrian and bicycle floating walkway that runs over the waters of Willamette River on the East Bank. The Esplanade goes on for 2.4 kilometers. While it is short on amenities, it does offer some of the greatest views of Portland you are likely to get. The path goes below highways, below the Burnside Bridge, below the Morrison Bridge, ending just short of Hawthorne Bridge. As it is quite a popular spot for both pedestrians and cyclists, you're advised not to go too fast. It is rather narrow after all and you would not want to knock anyone into the water. There are four pieces of public art on the walkway, created by RIGGA, a collective of local artists. The walkway is said to give the sensation of walking on water.
