Peter Kerr established these 13 hectare gardens and donated them to the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon after his death. Since then the estate has been made open to the public. The name of the garden is derived from the 19th century name for the nearby cliffs. As far as the parks of Portland go this one is not much different, but it has a unique selling point. It's location on a bluff above the Willamette River gives it incredible vistas. Combine that with the wide variety of flora, the blooms in the spring season, and you have almost unmatched natural beauty. There is not much to do here other than stroll and take pictures though.

Elk Rock Garden Reviews & Ratings
Gorgeous little maze of an ecclectically artistic variety of flora mixed in with well-preserved wild growth and astounding old trees. The paths weave all across the hillside leaving you to get lost amidst the botanical beauty. The bridge is a nice touch, as is everything else here. Also a great spot for a wedding or similar gatherings!
Portland never ceases to surprise me with all of the beautiful free activities that are available. Elk Rock Garden is one of those, where you will find beautiful English inspired Gardens. I visited on a rainy day so we mostly had the entire property to myself, but due to the layout of the trails you can easily get lost with yourself and pretend like no one else is around.
The grounds are very pretty. This is a great stop if you're seeking solitude.
This is a great garden to getaway and just breathe. The best part, it is free!
Although always a beautiful and peaceful place, spring is breathtaking! The smells are as much a part of the experience as sights. The quiet makes it all complete.
