Kachka, Portland Reviews - Write a Review
I can't say enough good things about this place. I'm half-Polish, so the vodka and food is very similar to my background. The food is unbelievable. They take rustic foods and keep them rustic, but make them fresh and perfect. Herring in a fur coat is to die for. For me though, the meat dumplings in the garlic butter broth is one of the best food items in Portland. Also be brave and try their infused vodkas. They are incredibly knowledgeable about them too, so don't hesitate to ask. This place usually has a wait, so make sure to plan for a long, awesome evening.
Long long wait but we also came on a Saturday night. They do take reservations so worth looking into. The food is delicious, decent size portions for the price. The dumplings were my favorite you can get them pan fried or cooked traditionally.
The khachapuri was great! The staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. The place was pretty busy on a Thursday night, so making reservations for a table might be a good idea.
Our party was large enough that we had to be seated in the back rooms. It seemed to me like the kind of place that mobsters could be making deals. The atmosphere was post revolution Russia, even in music choice, and the cuisine as well. I was very impressed with the food and the attention to detail, down to the simple russian cups and bottles. The menu is also professional, but shows off the personality of the restaurant with its own humor. The only constructive thing I could add is being more clear about portion sizes and expanding the menu (salad olivei).
Very good. I would recommend this place over the slightly more expensive restaurants in the area. Get the Herring Under a Red Fur Coat.
