I can't say enough good things about this place. I'm half-Polish, so the vodka and food is very similar to my background. The food is unbelievable. They take rustic foods and keep them rustic, but make them fresh and perfect. Herring in a fur coat is to die for. For me though, the meat dumplings in the garlic butter broth is one of the best food items in Portland. Also be brave and try their infused vodkas. They are incredibly knowledgeable about them too, so don't hesitate to ask. This place usually has a wait, so make sure to plan for a long, awesome evening.
Unfortunately, the staff was cold and rude. They made us sit at the bar because there were I guess lots of reservations, but there were about 20 open tables that we could have used. We were 4 people sitting at the bar. Then, when I slid a dirty dish over to the bartender, he immediately got really pissed off and SLAMMED a drink he was making down on the counter and shook his head as if I had committed some kind of crime. Maybe I committed some kind of faux pas by trying to clear the space myself but he was so rude it was unbelievable. He made all of us so uncomfortable! Then, they confused our order and brought out 2 plates instead of 4. Overall I think there was 1 competent and nice person serving us, the rest were pretty much nasty. Will never go back there or take anyone there again. Sorry but if you want to be treated nice, do not go here.
Been dropping by every 4 to 6 months. I love the dumplings. I was a bit surprised by the service this time. Normally so welcoming... Normally feels comfortable. Lots of new staff, so maybe just new and busy staff this once... I hope... still love the food.
Wow! I have very high standards for food and I have nothing but praise for Kachka. The food is lovingly prepared, interesting and delicious. The whole environment from the decor, fun music and warm staff makes the experience even better. You can see and taste how much love and respect for this culture went into making the food. I think Russian cuisine is mostly unknown to a lot of people so stop by and see how great it is at Kachka!
This place is great. I have never been to let alone even had the option to go to a Russian restaurant. I was so excited to try this. I had the Fish Jerky with my beer (yummy). The Sockeye Salmon Caviar was really delicate and elegant very tasty. My favorite was the Mackerel Fish board. It was amazing!
