Portland Art Museum, Portland Reviews
An interesting place to visit, but not top of the list if you're only in Portland for a short time. We visited on one of the free days. You'd have thought the place would be packed, but it was actually not too bad at all. The native American art was very well done. There could have been a bit more to explain the linkage /difference between the different sections, however this is a minor comment as the explanations about individual items was good. Some of the work was thought provoking, but there was also a tonne of fairly shallow work that was very easy to walk on by. We caught part of a live, 'singing', piece which was fairly firmly lodged in its own behind. The works on display were interesting enough, but I would have felt a little disappointed if we'd paid than $15
Museums amazing, two buildings with an underground link. They have lots of rotating exhibits which covers almost every type of art. They offer space for the Northwest film group to host events. They offer student discounts with a yearly 20 dollar plan. The curating is fantastic with the rooms flowing effortlessly. Highly recommend if you're visiting or live here!
I love the PAM. I go there every chance I get. Docents are friendly and knowledgeable, the special exhibits are always fantastic, the permanent collection is impressive, and the artwork is displayed well. As a Friend-level member for many years now, I'm a little sad that they have changed membership rules. My partner and I used to be able to go in together or either one of us (not both) could go in with a guest any time (our membership includes admission for two any time). Now only he and I can use our membership.
Spent a good 2 hours walking around the museum. The first half in the older section and then the new modern section. A stark contrast to both sides of the building. Collection is unique and in some places bare. Not sure if they were setting up a next exhibition? Downside: Over priced $20 admission. Upside: buy ticket price is cheaper after 5pm.
Wonderful, awe-inspiring collections. Impeccable curation. Lots of local history/ artists, along with antiquities and classical fine art. Both the standing exhibits and the temporary exhibitions are must-see. Welcoming to families and small children, but also a great place to go for a day alone! I am a proud member and frequent visitor.
