Clerigos Tower, the tall bell tower at Clerigos Church, dominates the skyline of Porto. At the time of its completion in 1763, it was the tallest structure in Portugal.
This imposing masterpiece is the work of Nicolau Nasoni, an 18th century Italian architect whose stroke of genius can be found all around northern Portugal. He designed both the Clerigos Church and Tower in classic Baroque elements. Later in life, Nasoni himself joined the Clerigos brotherhood and was buried at the Clerigos Church upon his death.
The delightful panoramic view of Porto, the beach and River Duoro from the top of the tower comes at a hefty price – you need to climb the steep 240 steps to the top. Your other option is to climb the outside of the tower, as an acrobatic father and son duo is known to have done in 1917.
Despite the arduous challenge, the 250 year old Clerigos Tower remains a very popular tourist destination. It stands 76 m tall.

Clerigos Tower, Porto Reviews - Write a Review
Amazing view! Great way to see the city, even on a foggy day. It cost 4 euros to see the tower and museum and I thought the price was well worth it. Lots of steps to climb to get to the stop but I think it looks more daunting than it actually is. There are quite a few places on your way up to read information about the tower and to take a break and enjoy the view. It was also really neat to see some of the old relics. I am not extremely religious, but I still enjoyed the history, art and architecture.
Old tower with a good view on the city. Ticket cost 4 euro. Recommend to visit!
You need to walk up the stairs but it is worth, the view is nice, but because the city has many hills you already can have beautiful sights from other places
Nice place and access not as bad as previous reviews describe. They have a system in place to regulate traffic in the tower (didn't work today unfortunately, but they have it). Ticket includes access to chruch's balconies as well. The stairs are not that many actually and there is enough space for 2 people to pass. Based on previews reviews I was expecting something as hazardous as the tower in Bristol but this is by no means as narrow/unsafe/unattended as that. Lovely views from the top.
Better €4 value than the bookstore staircase. Great views of the city to orient yourself.
