The Royal Maritime Club, Portsmouth Reviews - Write a Review
Great hotel with lots of character. Reasonably priced rooms. Swimming pool and multiple function rooms, bar and restaurant (but lots of pub and restaurant options nearby). Friendly staff. Rooms are always clean and it's really close to The Hard, Gunwharf Quays, the dockyard and the train station. I stay here regularly for the last 18 months and the only problem I ever have is the place filling up before I make a reservation!
Been there twice now and I'm not regretting my choice. Beautiful interior and comfortable rooms. Very satisfyingly located a stone throw from Portsmouth Historical Dockyard. Pleasant bar and breakfast though nothing extraordinary.
I stayed at the Royal Maritime for work. The room was okay and nothing special. I was a bit disappointed about the WiFi problems that I had. I managed to use the pool and it was a great way to unwind after work. The hotel is close to the harbour and the shopping centre. It could be a food base for exploring Portsmouth. The restaurant in the hotel is okay to eat at. There are a number of places to eat within a short walk.
Dinner was great. Roast potatoes were not cooked or crispy. Service was excellent. Our party had an excellent experience. I would go again and perhaps speak with the chef??
We go for swimming lessons so can only review that area and lobby. The staff are always friendly. The hotel is clean and tidy. There is a lift down to the pool area. The pool area is always clean and tidy, the pool is warm and I can stand up in it, the water generally comes up to my shoulders (I am 5 foot). There is a jacuzzi there which looks lovely and inviting. Changing rooms are spacious and there are plenty of shower cubicles. The lockers are a little small for all of our gear (babies come along with so much!) but if you were a guest at the hotel they would be big enough.
