Groenkloof Nature Reserve - Review

What the reserve doesn’t offer in terms of novelties, it more than makes up for in terms of experience. Set near the Fountain Valley, the reserve offers visitors their own method of travel. You can clamber atop a horse, hike, and roll around on a mountain bike or just lounge through in a 4X4. The animals to watch out for include impala, kudu, wildebeest, ostrich, giraffe, red hartebeest and sable. And that’s not even starting on what an incredible paradise this is for bird lovers. You can even camp overnight. There are activities for all ages and fitness levels, so no one is going to get shortchanged on their preferred level of fun. Deep in the reserve, you will come on the famous Mayo Restaurant. No matter what else you do, make sure to have a meal there. The management is excellent; their tips and advice is intuitive of every visitors needs.

Groenkloof Nature Reserve, Pretoria Reviews

  • Very nice place to get out of the city and break away. I would recommend that you go there with someone who has been there before as we got lost the first time and the second time we knew exactly where we were. There are public bathrooms when you start but not on the trails. You can pay either cash or card at the entrance. There are brain facilities too. The views are awesome though and the whole trail as well really awesome.

  • Unbelievable . A must visit for a good hiking trail. There are a few options. The views are also amazing. Kids can easily do this trail. Best early morning as it's not too hot. Best in summer or winter. There is also a bike trail. Best to do in bigger groups as it's more fun. Game also available occasionally.

  • I mountain bike here weekly with a friend. There is a jeep track but also lots of single trails , some flowy others rocky and hilly. You can pay with credit card. Weekend mornings you may find a mobile espresso bar but no food. Changing facilities are old but functional. You're likely to see some of the wildlife from up close during your ride. Relatively safe compared to Fountains next door which has become a no go area for me.

  • Very very nice for short medium and large day walks close to home. Excellent mountain biking unless you get robbed of your bike by the local wildlife so I've heard. But that hardly ever happens just like the petrol price going down

  • A fantastic spot to cycle, picnic, hike 4x4 and generally have fun outdoors. Issues with security have largely been addressed, but check for the latest. We always have a great time as a family with kids aged 7 - 12.
