How to Reach Pretoria
N1, N3, N4, N12 and N14 are the national highways leading from all over the country into the city or Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg is the closes international airport; you can take a taxi to Pretoria from there directly or walk to Isand (1.5kilometres away) and take the metro to the city. Gautrain travels between Pretoria and Johannesburg in 35 minutes at R49. The cheaper (R9) Metro Rail takes longer at 100 minutes.
Minibuses called combis are the favourite local transport option; all trips will cost about R12. Be sure to clarify that you are, in fact, going to be dropped close to where you want to go. Or else look for another combi. Hiring taxis is a good option and there are fairly reliable municipal public buses, once you become familiar with them.
