Sammy Marks House, Pretoria Reviews
It was really interesting and the guide was wonderful, she told us such wonderful stories about the family and pointed out interesting things in the house. We weren't allowed in the room behind the billiard room but you could see from outside the beautiful stained glass windows.
Tranquil setting with tasty food. The menu is not very big in terms of variety, but the food is tasty. The museum is a must see. The grounds are lovely, and offers great photo opportunities, and ideal for picnics in various spots.
Very interesting experience to visit this special house which was a first in many aspects in Pretoria. Worthwhile to spend some time there for the whole family
Sadly you are not allowed to take photo's unless you pay R500 per hour! Per hour! That's just robbery. We wanted to have breakfast and browse the gardens and old buildings but were very rudely told that we had to pay R500 per hour to take any photos and the restaurant was closed. There seem to be more security guards than customers at this 'monument'. Very bad attitude and I will not be going back to this once awesome place.
The history of the house is very interesting; and the tour very informative. We were hoping to eat something at the venue but was informed that the restaurant closed down. Maybe they should reconsider the rule that no picnics are allowed as the grounds are perfect for a family outing.
